Mayors Proposed Ordinance Voted Down By Councl! "Citizens Right To Know"

July 5, 2010

On July 5, 2010 the Valdosta Daily Times once again addressed why Valdosta City Council traveled to the Georgia Municipal Associate Convention in Savannah. This 4-day convention reportedly costs up to $1,500 per person all of which was paid for by tax payers. Mayor John Fretti proposed ordinance that would have limited travel for council members who know they would be leaving office. However the ordinance was defeated by the majority of council members by a vote of 6-1.

Why did the Times only publish the views of Mayor Fretti and Councilman Eunice? Our community would have been better served had the editor interviewed all council members as to why they rejected the mayors proposed ordinance. By omitting their views citizens are once again left deaf, dumb, and blind on this issue.

A great philosophy once said; no one has to argue or fight over a dirty glass of water just set a clean glass of water up beside it and let the people choose for themselves. Or is there more to the ordinance than meets the eye?

The article also said; “When county officials make hard sacrifices the city appears self-serving. But there is another saying which says; “that when truth comes into the minds of those that seek truth falsehood must vanish and that falsehood is forever a vanishing thing.

Please do the interviews and give the people the hard-core facts so they can choose for themselves between the dirty glass and the clean glass of political water. God Bless!
